Arjun walked home, his bag heavy with books feeling like bricks on his shoulders. All he wanted was his cozy bed and to watch his favourite anime.
But as he reached the door, he heard his dad's loud and confident voice, "Arjun will top this year, no doubt.” Hearing that Arjun swallowed loudly, dad was talking to one of his uncles again he thought.
He heard his father continue on the phone call “He's getting into that college…. Yes! Yes! We've given him everything – good school, the best tuition, and all the other provisions at home. He's sure to get the best grades.”
His dad paused for a another minute, and said “No arts for him; he's going to be an engineer. Nah! Nah! Those drawings are just for fun, nothing serious."
Feeling sad and a little hurt, after he overhear his dad, Arjun wasn't sure if he should go inside or leave. Since he didn't have anywhere else to go, he opened the door, not feeling very happy about it.
Instead of watching his anime like he wanted, he ended up opening his books again. Arjun was exhausted, his feet and mind hurt. Tonight which was supposed to be a relaxing time turned into a night of non-stop studying. Just then his father entered his room, to check up on him, seeing Arjun studying, he gave a satisfied nod.
The pressure from his parents was making everything feel really heavy on him. Somewhere in the corner, in the dimness, beneath stacks of books and unsolved question papers, lay small sketchpads cradling Arjun's most cherished drawings—A hidden treasure.
